Chapter 247 – Fatal Strike
by Heavenly CatAs Min Do-jun raised his sword, Adam Bishop panicked.
“W-wait!”
“Why? Any last words before you die?”
“Y-you clearly said at the beginning that you didn’t come to kill me, just to talk.”
“You believed that?”
As Min Do-jun raised his sword again, the stunned Adam regained his senses and prepared to counterattack.
“Are we going to fight?”
“……”
Adam knew it too.
That resistance was meaningless in front of an opponent with 8 million combat power.
So Adam decided.
‘I need to escape.’
He would run away first and worry about the consequences later.
But in this narrow guild master’s office, there was nowhere for him to flee.
“M-Min Do-jun. Let’s not do this. Let’s talk it out.”
“I’ll kill you and fulfill my lifelong wish.”
“W-what did I do wrong? To be honest, I haven’t even harmed you yet!”
The moment Adam shouted, Min Do-jun realized his scheme.
“Making noise to call for help, are you?”
‘Damn ghost-like bastard!’
Adam gritted his teeth inwardly, but outwardly he could only smile awkwardly.
“D-don’t be like that, let’s talk. Th-that’s right! Aren’t you curious why I’m trying to stage a coup in Korea?”
“Not really.”
A murderous aura swirled in Min Do-jun’s eyes.
“Whatever your reason, the fact that you were planning a coup is enough.”
“……”
“That alone is reason enough for you to die.”
“P-please spare me.”
“It’s already too late for that.”
Min Do-jun thrust his sword forward.
A strike that was neither fast nor slow.
At first glance, it seemed like a simple thrust, but the power behind it was undeniable.
After all, it was a strike from Min Do-jun, whose stats were approaching 20,000.
‘Ah…!’
As the sword moved at a speed impossible to dodge, Adam sensed his impending death.
Min Do-jun’s attack, aimed precisely at the heart, was a fatal strike.
Perhaps because of this.
Ting-!
Adam’s legendary equipment suddenly turned golden and reflected 90% of the damage received. This was something even Adam hadn’t expected.
‘Th-that’s right! My helmet definitely had an option to reflect fatal strikes!’
Color returned to Adam’s face, but only briefly.
Since only 90% of the damage was reflected, he still had to take the remaining 10%.
Kwang-!
“Kuhurk!”
Adam crashed through the TV and into one wall.
‘Th-this is just 10% of the damage?’
Though his life wasn’t in danger, the impact momentarily made it hard to breathe.
‘It was just a simple thrust, right? How could it deal such monstrous damage…’
If not for his legendary item’s defense, he might have died.
‘Wait, if 10% is this bad, then what about Min Do-jun who took 90% of the damage?’
Adam quickly raised his head.
Perhaps there was hope that he could defeat Min Do-jun without lifting a finger.
But hope was just hope.
Min Do-jun was unharmed.
‘W-what’s going on? Surely 90% of the damage was reflected?’
With damage of this magnitude, Min Do-jun should have suffered significantly, but he was clean without a single wound.
The reason was simple.
It was because of the Second Twin’s Blessing, which blocked fatal strikes three times.
Min Do-jun secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
‘Without the Second Twin’s Blessing, that could have been dangerous.’
He had moderated his strength in case Adam had a reflection option, but even that produced damage beyond imagination.
‘My combat power isn’t limited to 8 million.’
Min Do-jun sensed that his combat power was still far from reaching its limit.
Just then, someone appeared on Min Do-jun’s Presence Detection radar.
‘Tch, someone’s coming because of the noise.’
Min Do-jun activated invisibility.
At the same time, the guild master’s office door burst open.
“G-Guild Master! Are you alright?”
The person who entered was James, Adam’s means of transportation.
‘I need to kill him first.’
Min Do-jun moved before the two could make contact.
‘Die.’
He swung his sword, aiming for the head.
A perfect ambush.
But the man also had legendary items. Not with a reflection option, but one that reduced damage by 90%.
Thud-!
Even with most of the damage reduced, James was struck in the back of the head and collapsed.
“James!”
Adam hurriedly grabbed the falling man’s hand.
“Quick! Use teleport now!”
James, who received the order before losing consciousness, used teleport.
Swoosh-
“Damn it. Lost them right in front of me again.”
Min Do-jun stared emptily at the spot where the two had disappeared.
* * *
David, who had been comfortably resting on the sofa, jumped up in surprise.
His brother and Adam had suddenly appeared, both collapsed.
“Are you okay, brother? A-are you alright, Adam?”
“Huff, huff… Damn. I almost died.”
Adam muttered before switching to formal speech.
“Call a healer quickly to treat James.”
Those under mind control always used formal speech to their master.
As a result, Adam had also developed a habit of using formal speech to his subordinates.
“I-I’ll call one right away!”
While David went to call a healer, Adam looked at the injured James.
He had fainted with his eyes rolled back, though it wasn’t clear how much damage he had taken.
‘Just 10% of the damage was enough to put him in critical condition…’
It was fortunate he wasn’t dead, but Adam hoped James would recover quickly.
‘I need to prepare to escape before Min Do-jun catches up.’
As Min Do-jun had guessed, Adam was using the American brothers as his means of transportation.
One would stay at home while the other accompanied him outside, taking turns.
‘This place isn’t safe anymore. I need to change my return point.’
This was his home in America.
Now that his identity was exposed, it wouldn’t be strange for Min Do-jun to find him here.
‘I need to flee far away, overseas.’
But even that didn’t feel safe.
The fact that Min Do-jun had found the secret set in China proved that.
‘It’s strange that he knows my identity. My face shouldn’t be on the internet…’
How did he know Adam was the Overlord Guild master just by seeing his face, and even find his guild?
‘Could Min Do-jun have tracking abilities beyond the Hunting Dog trait?’
In any case, judging by how he kept appearing wherever Adam was, he must have some ability to track locations.
‘If that’s the case, it’s only a matter of time before I’m caught no matter where I go.’
Being caught by Min Do-jun meant death.
Just now, if not for his legendary item, he would have died without a chance.
‘Thanks to teleport, I’ve bought some time, but that’s all. I don’t know when he’ll appear again.’
He wanted to control Min Do-jun’s mind, but it was impossible.
He had no idea why.
‘Damn… How can mind control not work on someone with such high Karma?’
It was still unbelievable.
‘What should I do? If mind control doesn’t work, I have no choice but to kill him…’
But how could he kill a monster with 8 million combat power?
‘As long as Min Do-jun remains in Korea, I can’t stage a coup.’
There weren’t even any hunters he could mind-control.
‘Damn, my plan… My plan to destroy Korea is in jeopardy…’
Adam held his head and sighed.
It was the first time since becoming a hunter that he felt such despair.
‘If I can’t control his mind, I need to kill him. But how?’
He pondered, but no easy answer came.
‘He must have a weakness. Definitely.’
While lost in thought, David brought a healer.
“Here! Please heal my brother!”
“A-alright.”
While the healer treated the unconscious James, David asked Adam.
“What happened? Why is my brother in this state?”
“We were attacked by a monster.”
“A monster?”
“This isn’t the time. We need to escape right now.”
“What? Now?”
“This place isn’t safe. That monster that attacked us could come after us at any moment.”
The situation was urgent.
Min Do-jun could barge into the house at any time.
“Healer, take James to another location for treatment. We’ll go ahead.”
“A-alright.”
Even James couldn’t be left in this house.
If one of the twins died, teleport would become unusable.
“And David.”
“Yes.”
“From now on, don’t stray more than one meter from me. You need to be within teleport range at all times. Understood?”
David, under mind control, had no authority to refuse orders.
“Understood.”
They needed to be ready to escape at any moment in case Min Do-jun appeared.
“Let’s go.”
Adam left the house with David.
If Min Do-jun had tracking abilities, they would be caught no matter where they went, but they had to change locations just in case.
Ring ring ring-
In the car, Adam called someone.
“It’s me, Adam. Drop whatever you’re doing and get on a plane immediately.”
Adam smiled coldly.
“You have a job to do in Korea.”
* * *
After losing Adam, Min Do-jun returned to Korea.
‘Even if I find him, he’ll just escape with teleport again.’
This time, Adam would have prepared even more thoroughly.
He would probably stick close to the twin brothers to escape via teleport at a moment’s notice.
‘I can’t even assassinate him.’
Due to his legendary item blocking 90% of damage, Min Do-jun couldn’t kill him in one hit.
‘If I can’t kill him in one hit, he’ll just escape again.’
The legendary items he had once thought were only beneficial had become a headache in the enemy’s hands.
‘I need to devise a method.’
A way to kill Adam.
‘The problem is teleport. If I can just prevent him from using it, killing him becomes easy.’
The way to prevent teleport was simple.
Kill the twin hunters.
‘I just need to kill one of them.’
Currently, Adam had two teams of twin hunters.
The Chinese team and the American team.
‘If I kill one from each team, he can no longer escape with teleport.’
Min Do-jun didn’t know the location of the Chinese team, but he knew one of the American team.
He had memorized his scent at the set.
‘His name was James, right?’
If he found and killed him first, at least one of Adam’s escape routes would be cut off.
‘Let’s wait until the Ghost Wolf’s cooldown resets.’
Right now, he couldn’t track even if he wanted to.
The distance was continuously increasing, as if Adam was conscious of him.
‘I can’t catch up without riding the Ghost Wolf.’
He planned to spend time in Korea until the cooldown reset, then track down and kill James.
There was no need for guilt.
‘Being under Adam’s mind control means they’re criminals who have committed murder at least once.’
It’s better to kill such trash.
They could become a problem later.
‘What if mind control doesn’t break even after killing Adam?’
His subordinates would cause problems.
‘Adam might have ordered them to attack Korea if he dies.’
It would be best to kill all of Adam’s subordinates without exception.
“Ah, Guild Master.”
When he stopped by the guild, Park Dong-yun greeted him warmly.
“Did you enjoy your vacation?”
“Yes. Was everything alright while I was gone?”
“Of course. I’ve been managing the guild well.”
Min Do-jun was relieved to hear that.
He probably wouldn’t be able to visit the guild for a while.
“Then I’ll continue to rely on you.”
“Huh? Are you going somewhere again?”
“I have some urgent business.”
He couldn’t say he was going to kill a great villain and save the world, so he gave a vague answer.
‘The cooldown will reset soon.’
As soon as it did, he would find and kill James.
Just then.
Ring- Ring-
Min Do-jun’s phone vibrated.
The caller was unknown.
All he could tell was that it was an international call.
‘Who could it be?’
When he answered, a familiar voice greeted him.
-Min Do-jun? It’s me. Adam.
I always find this incredibly funny as English doesn’t really have “formal speech” like at most you call someone “sir/mister/miss/ma’am” beyond that it’s all tone and pretty much any word is free to use.
His combat power is higher so they cant see him invisible. So he can just show up under invisibility and capture one of the twins…
