Chapter 251 – Seventeen S-Rank Hunters
by Heavenly CatAdam and David arrived at Montreal International Airport in Canada and immediately headed to a self-service ticket machine.
They bought two tickets for the soonest departing flight.
‘There’s no time to set foot on the ground. I never know when Min Do-jun will catch up.’
It didn’t matter where they went.
As long as they could escape Min Do-jun.
‘No matter how fast that guy is, he can’t match the speed of an airplane.’
He couldn’t fly, so there was no better way to flee than by plane.
“Um… Adam.”
“What is it, David?”
“You said that Min Do-jun hunter is trying to kill us, right? And you suspect he has some kind of tracking ability.”
“That’s right.”
“Then let me ask you just one thing. How long are we going to keep riding planes like this?”
Hearing his subordinate’s complaint, Adam’s brow furrowed.
It seemed David was getting tired of constantly being on the move, never setting foot on the ground.
“Why? You don’t like flying?”
“It’s just… after so many flights, it’s getting a little old…”
“Would you rather be bored, or dead?”
“…”
“I’d rather be bored. Or do you want to stand around on the ground and get caught and killed by Min Do-jun?”
“N-no, sir.”
“Then shut up and keep running. Now call James and see if he’s still on the move.”
“Yes, sir.”
David called his older brother James.
“Hey, bro. You still running around?”
There was no point in Adam and David running if James wasn’t alive.
James needed to be alive so they could use teleport in an emergency.
“Okay, got it.”
David reported to Adam after the call.
“He says he’s been switching trains as you ordered.”
“Good. He’s doing well.”
As long as the three of them used fast transportation like trains and planes, there was no way Min Do-jun could catch them.
“Our American team is fine, but I wonder about the Chinese team.”
“I’ll try calling them.”
David tried calling Jin Weizheng.
“No answer.”
“Try his brother.”
He called Jin Weibai, but again, there was no answer.
“Neither of them are picking up.”
“That’s odd. I told them to always answer my calls…”
Adam felt a sense of foreboding and made another call.
—Hello, Adam-nim. How have you been?
“It’s been a while, Zhu Georyong.”
Zhu Georyong was China’s rank 1 hunter, also known as a master of the spear.
He was also a loyal subordinate of Adam’s in Overlord Guild.
—What brings you to call?
“I can’t reach the Jin Weizheng and Jin Weibai brothers. Can you check the Chinese rankings to see if their names are still there?”
—Just a moment. I’ll check right away.
A moment later, Zhu Georyong’s voice came back, sounding troubled.
—Their names… aren’t there.
“Are you sure? Both of them?”
—Yes. It seems they’re both dead.
Adam’s premonition had come true.
“Understood. I’ll call again if anything comes up.”
Adam’s expression darkened after the call.
‘Damn, the twin hunters are dead…’
They weren’t number one like Zhu Georyong, but they were ranked third and fourth in China.
They weren’t the type to die so easily.
‘They were killed by Min Do-jun. There’s no other possibility.’
He’d told them to hide in a secret base, and yet they’d still died.
‘If he found them even in hiding, he really does have a tracking ability.’
Adam felt a chill run down his spine.
If he hadn’t been running constantly, he might have been the one dead by now, not the twins.
‘But how did he kill them? Even with legendary items and teleport, it shouldn’t have been easy…’
Regardless, the important thing was that Min Do-jun could track locations.
‘Now that the Chinese team is dead, he’ll target the American team next. Or maybe he’ll come straight for me…’
The thought of having to run for his life again filled Adam with despair.
‘I can’t live like this forever, always on the run.’
Living in constant fear of death was agony.
Adam had been feeling this deeply lately.
“Adam-nim, it’s time. Shall we go?”
“…”
“Adam-nim?”
“How far is it to Benz’s house from here?”
“Benz… you mean Canada’s number one?”
“Yes. We’re going there.”
“What about running away?”
“If the Chinese team is dead, running isn’t the answer anymore.”
“Then what are you going to do…?”
“I’m going to fight.”
“…What?”
“Summon all S-rank guild members.”
Adam’s eyes flashed with resolve.
“Let’s see if we can kill that monster.”
* * *
The reason Overlord Guild had gained worldwide fame was simple.
They had recruited the most famous hunters from around the world.
Starting with world rank 1 Justin Walker, they had even recruited each country’s top hunters.
Overlord Guild was the only guild in the world with more than twenty hunters above level 4,000.
How could they bring in all these top hunters?
Was it just the signing bonuses?
Their reputation?
Their salesmanship?
People speculated all sorts of reasons, but the truth was different.
It was all thanks to Adam’s mind-control ability.
‘Recruiting all those rank 1s from around the world is finally paying off.’
Adam grinned as he watched the world’s top hunters gather at Benz’s house.
‘Thank goodness their Karma was high.’
Being rank 1 didn’t mean they were all good people.
In fact, most had nasty tempers, and many had enough Karma from past murders to be controlled.
‘Of course, there were exceptions, but those types were easy to push over the edge. Just threaten someone they care about, and they’ll kill for revenge.’
With nothing but strength to their name, it was easy to provoke them into murder, making them easy to control.
“Carlos.”
At Adam’s call, Brazil’s rank 1 approached.
“You called, Adam-nim.”
“Your trait is Mind’s Eye, right? The one that can see through stealth?”
“That’s correct. I can detect invisibility, stealth, dungeon traps, even the number of people nearby, all with my eyes closed.”
“Good. Stay close to me and use it to watch for intruders.”
“An intruder? Is someone coming?”
“Yes. I’ll explain once everyone’s here.”
The top hunters of each country had rushed to Adam’s call.
Even Justin Walker, world rank 1, was among them.
“Is that…?”
“That’s the famous Justin Walker…”
Even though they were in the same guild, it was the first time many saw him in person.
“You’re late, Justin.”
“Sorry. My flight was delayed…”
He bowed his head and glanced at Adam’s sides.
Standing guard beside Adam were David, the American twin, and Carlos, Brazil’s rank 1.
“Is Hunter Min Do-jun coming?”
“You’re sharp as ever.”
“I’ll stand guard with you.”
Justin Walker stood next to Adam, radiating an overwhelming presence.
At level 4,700, he was one of the highest-leveled hunters in the world.
“Oh, Justin Walker, you’re here too?”
Benz, Canada’s rank 1 and the owner of the house, approached with a laugh.
“How have you been, Benz?”
“Are you really asking after me? The famously cold Justin Walker? That’s a surprise.”
“Don’t tease. Adam-nim is here.”
“Don’t mind me. Talk as you wish. And Benz, sorry for barging in like this. When I thought of Canada, only your house came to mind.”
“Haha, it’s fine. I was getting bored in this big house anyway.”
“Benz, you’re world rank 2, right?”
“Yes. I’m about 50 levels behind Justin Walker.”
“Level is one thing, but your combat power is about the same.”
“Is that so?”
“Benz, you should stand by my side too. Protect me.”
“Understood, Adam-nim.”
Benz equipped his hunter gear and stood next to Justin Walker.
With world ranks 1 and 2 standing guard beside Adam, there was no safer place.
“Looks like everyone’s here.”
Adam counted seventeen S-rank hunters.
This excluded the dead Chinese twins and James, who was still running around.
“Attention, everyone!”
At Adam’s call, all eyes turned to him.
“Thank you for coming so quickly on such short notice. I’m sure you’re all wondering why I called you. Why summon all the S-rank hunters? What emergency could require this?”
The hunters all nodded in agreement.
“The reason I called you is because of an assassin trying to kill me.”
“An assassin?”
The crowd stirred at the unexpected news.
“How dare someone try to assassinate Adam-nim!”
“Whoever it is, we’ll tear them apart!”
Except for Adam’s closest aides, this was the first they’d heard of it.
“Calm down. I’ve been on the run for days because of this assassin. But running isn’t the answer. I realized I need to kill him to break free of this nightmare, so I’ve decided to stand and fight.”
Adam’s speech, like a freedom fighter’s, seemed to inspire the hunters.
“We’ll protect you!”
“No assassin will lay a finger on you, Adam-nim!”
“If he shows up, I’ll rip him to shreds and feed him to the monsters!”
Even without Adam giving direct orders, the hunters were eager to protect him.
Still, Adam wanted to make it official.
“Soon, the assassin will appear. His name is Min Do-jun. He’s Korea’s rank 1. Protect me from him.”
“Leave it to us!”
“Korea’s number one isn’t even a big deal!”
“I could handle him myself!”
Their confidence was impressive, but Adam cautioned them.
“Don’t underestimate him. His level is 4,450. He’s not to be taken lightly.”
“4,450? That’s world rank 40, isn’t it?”
That wasn’t an easy rank to reach.
Of the hunters gathered, five were lower level than Min Do-jun.
But that also meant twelve were higher.
With this many, confidence was understandable.
“Don’t worry! He’s as good as dead.”
“I’m 150 levels higher than him!”
But Adam’s next words silenced them.
“Min Do-jun’s combat power is 8 million. Does anyone here come close?”
“…”
Even Justin Walker, world rank 1, only had 3.25 million.
The rest, though all above 2 million, couldn’t compare.
“Now you see why I called you all here.”
“…Yes.”
“Don’t let your guard down. Understood?”
“Yes.”
“Gear up and stay alert for his attack.”
The hunters moved with military precision.
A few minutes passed in tense silence.
Then Carlos spoke.
“He’s here! The assassin!”
Min Do-jun had arrived.
