Chapter 65 – Private Investigation Agency
by Heavenly CatRank 647 – Gil Chung-soo (Born 1991) – Level 1,350 (B-grade)
Gil Chung-soo is currently the lowest-level target for revenge.
‘At my current level, I can kill him.’
Min Do-jun’s current level is 1,011.
Though there was a level difference, he was certain.
He even believed he could defeat Lee Se-yun, who is currently A-grade.
‘No need to wait any longer. I must find and eliminate him.’
However, Min Do-jun knows very little about Gil Chung-soo.
He knows he’s a psychopathic serial killer, but not his whereabouts.
‘He’s not yet known as a serial killer.’
Though not now, Gil Chung-soo will later become notorious as a serial killer.
‘He was called the worst hunter serial killer.’
He was a hunter with a hobby of killing civilians.
120 victims murdered by him over seven years.
In other words, he was meticulous enough to avoid capture for seven years.
‘He’s probably still committing murders.’
According to known facts, he had been consistently killing since the past.
He had seen news about his prison escape but didn’t pay much attention.
He thought it was unrelated to him.
‘Who would have thought such a person would appear before me.’
The face of the man who giggled while stabbing remains vivid in his memory.
Crack-
Thinking of the past made his teeth grind, but he couldn’t show his teeth until the moment of revenge.
‘I’ll find and kill him whenever I have a chance.’
Min Do-jun looked up at the sign hanging on the top floor of the five-story building.
[Hangil Planning]
A private investigation agency.
He would need the agency’s help to find Gil Chung-soo.
Of course, he had changed his face and left his phone behind to prevent identification.
‘The ghost mask is useful at times like these.’
Min Do-jun now had the face of a middle-aged man in his 40s.
Not copied from anyone, but creatively crafted using the ghost mask.
‘I must not reveal that I’m a hunter.’
Disguised as an ordinary person, Min Do-jun entered the building.
Climbing the stairs of the old building without an elevator, he saw an iron door labeled Hangil Planning.
‘No doorbell?’
He knocked on the door.
Knock knock-
“Is anyone there?”
Knock knock knock-
A small movement was heard inside.
Click- Click-
Multiple locks were undone, and the door opened slightly.
“Who is it?”
“I heard you help find people.”
“Do you have a reservation?”
“No.”
The door abruptly closed.
When Min Do-jun knocked again, the door opened.
“Oh, come on! No reservation, go back.”
“If it’s about money, I’m prepared. Please at least hear me out.”
Min Do-jun showed a bag of cash.
A sizeable bag that seemed full of cash.
The man’s expression changed.
“Wait a moment.”
The door closed, and murmurs were heard inside.
Squeak-
“Come in.”
Entering, he saw several people.
Rough-looking men of substantial build.
“Please sit here.”
A thin-bodied man who seemed to be the representative approached and invited him to sit on the sofa.
“Welcome. I’m Ahn Chul-min, representative of Hangil Planning. Your name is…?”
“Kang Han-soo.”
An instantly fabricated name.
“Mr. Kang Han-soo. Before asking about your request, may I ask how you found our agency?”
“I accidentally picked up an advertising business card on the ground.”
“Business cards only have phone numbers.”
“I happened to see the sign while passing by.”
The representative stared as if trying to discern whether Min Do-jun was telling the truth, then nodded.
“Hmm, I see. So what brings you here?”
“I want to find someone.”
“Finding people is our specialty. Unrequited love? Old school friend?”
Min Do-jun shook his head, indicating none of those.
“An enemy.”
“An enemy… Let’s hear more.”
The consultation began in earnest.
“The person I’m looking for is named Gil Chung-soo. All I know is that he killed my girlfriend a few months ago.”
“…So you want us to find a murderer?”
“Yes.”
“Tell me more details about what happened.”
Min Do-jun fabricated a plausible story.
“My girlfriend was killed six months ago. We were breathing the sea breeze at the beach at night. While I briefly left, someone approached her. A man introduced himself as Gil Chung-soo and tried to pick her up for a drink.”
The date and time were false, but the incident itself was real.
This was a scenario adapted from one of Gil Chung-soo’s future crimes.
“My girlfriend naturally refused. Then the man tried to forcibly drag her away. When I appeared, he immediately ran away… I didn’t even think of chasing him. How stupid… I didn’t know my girlfriend would go missing the next day.”
Min Do-jun finished the story with an expression mixing half sadness and half regret.
“So you don’t have evidence, just circumstantial suspicion of murder?”
“Yes… After six months with no news, I couldn’t believe she was alive. I’m certain that b*st*rd Gil Chung-soo killed her.”
Min Do-jun revealed his anger while grinding his teeth and speaking in a serious tone.
“I only know his face and name, but if you can find him, I’ll be extremely grateful. Please help me.”
As Min Do-jun bowed his head, the representative looked hesitant.
“How can we find someone with just a name and face?”
“Please, this is the only thing I can do…”
“Hmm, in my 7 years of private investigation experience, I’ve never been asked to find a murderer.”
“Not just find him, but capture him. I’ll handle the punishment.”
“What? Kidnapping? Even as a private investigation agency, we can’t do that…”
Before he could finish, Min Do-jun quickly pulled out a bag.
“5 million upfront.”
“…”
The representative’s eyes widened like lanterns, then he quickly composed himself.
“We’re not the type to do everything for money…”
“I’ll give an additional 100 million if you catch him.”
“…”
“I’m not sure how much finding someone costs, but this should be enough to find someone with just a name. I’m staking my entire fortune on this request.”
“Hmm…”
After pondering for a while, the representative nodded.
“Okay. I’ll accept. But no refunds even if we find nothing.”
“Understood. Please, this is my only hope.”
“Good. Then give me detailed information about the time and place of the incident. Your girlfriend’s name, birth date, phone number.”
“It’s embarrassing to say, but we’d been dating so briefly that I only know her name.”
“No phone number or photos?”
“…None.”
Though bewildered, with significant money at stake, he couldn’t give up.
“Alright. Though information is limited, I’ll investigate and contact you. Can I have your contact information?”
“Due to personal circumstances, I don’t have a phone. Can I come back and set a date?”
“No phone?”
The representative looked suspicious.
“May I check if you have one on you?”
“Oh, of course.”
He signaled to a muscular man nearby.
“Stand up.”
As Min Do-jun carefully stood, the muscular man patted him down.
“Nothing in front. Let me check the back.”
He grabbed Min Do-jun’s shoulder and spun him around.
Min Do-jun swayed like paper.
After thoroughly checking his body, the man finally released him.
“Nothing found.”
With no way to verify his identity, the representative remained suspicious.
“What was your name again?”
“Kang Han-soo.”
“Your birth date?”
“February 21, 1978. But is my personal information really necessary to find the murderer?”
“Not exactly…”
“I promise. Just capture him, and I’ll pay 100 million in cash.”
“…Hmm, okay.”
The representative dropped his suspicions.
His straightforward responses helped, but most convincing was the desperate look in his eyes.
Min Do-jun stood up, having provided only vague information about the incident’s location and time.
“When should I come back?”
“Come back in a week.”
“Thank you very much.”
As Min Do-jun left the office, the representative asked the muscular man:
“How was he?”
“Physically fit from exercise, but not a hunter.”
“Really? Definitely an ordinary person?”
“Yes. Didn’t you see how he swayed?”
The representative had the man check to distinguish whether he was a hunter.
A hunter wouldn’t be easily pushed by an ordinary person’s strength.
“Relieved he’s not a hunter.”
For a representative who’d been badly burned by hunters before, verification was crucial.
“Boss, why did you suddenly accept?”
“Not a scam. We’re a legitimate business. If we’re commissioned, we must perform. Willing to lose 100 million?”
“Haha, of course not.”
“Don’t worry. The 100 million is practically ours.”
A meaningful smile crossed the representative’s lips.
* * *
Exactly one week later.
Min Do-jun returned to the private investigation agency at the promised time.
Knock knock knock-
“Who is it?”
“It’s Kang Han-soo.”
Unlike the first time, the door opened immediately.
“Welcome. We’ve been waiting.”
The representative came out in his socks.
His expression suggested good news.
“What happened?”
“We found the person you mentioned.”
